Within the framework of the EU program – “Covenant of Mayors demonstration projects” (CoMDeP), the first stage of the energy-efficient retrofitting of the kindergarten №6 in Rustavi has been finished.
The first stage of the retrofitting of the kindergarten №6 involved: installation of the heating and hot water supply systems (in combination with solar collectors), ventilation system, new electrical system, energy-efficient windows. The second stage involves the building exterior insulation.
David Jikia, the Mayor of Rustavi City, Karina Melikidze, director of the SDAP Center, Project manager , Jan Waanders, CoMDeP Support Team Leader, Viola Calabrese, EC NEAR Brussels, responsible for the Covenant of Mayors East, Lambert de Muriel, EU Delegation to Georgia and other representatives of the Rustavi Municipality and SDAP Center have acquainted the implemented works. They also visited the kindergartens #40 and #41. After the site-seeing of targeted kindergartens there was the meeting at the Rustavi Municipality, meeting with the Mayor, administration and presentation of the project implementation steps.
Contractors of the project -„Retrofitting 3 kindergartens (№6 №40 №41) in Rustavi City in order to achieve high energy efficiency standards and greenhouse emission reduction” – are the Sustainable Development and Policy (SDAP) Center and Rustavi City Municipality. This project is focused on implementation of the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) and is financed by the European Union under the CoMDeP (Covenant of Mayors Demonstration Projects) programme. The Rustavi City Municipality contributes 20.06% of the total project budget. The project is implemented by the Sustainable Development and Policy (SDAP) Center.
The project aims at rehabilitation of 3 kindergarten buildings (#6, #40, #41) in Rustavi, implementation of modern energy efficient measures and installation of renewable energy technologies. It will help local authorities to target energy efficiency, enhance energy security and economic growth.
