The second stage of the EU grant project -„Retrofitting 3 kindergartens in Rustavi City in order to achieve high energy efficiency standards and greenhouse emission reduction” has been launched in the Rustavi, at kindergarten №40 on 9 August 2016.

The Deputy Mayors of the Rustavi City, Mr. Nodar Sherozia, and Mr. Gocha Loria together with the Director of the Sustainable Development and Policy Center, Dr. Karina Melikidze observed the opening of the construction rehabilitation works.

Under the first stage, the heating with boiler room and the hot water supply systems (in combination with solar collectors) as well as the comprehensive ventilation system with the heat recovery, the absolutely new lighting system with the efficient bulbs, and energy-efficient windows with the low emissivity glazing have been already installed.

The second stage of the works will be completed in October 2016. The insulation works have to be carried out by the company- LTD “Gulfstream”.

This project was awarded for implementation to the Sustainable Development and Policy (SDAP) Center together with the Rustavi Municipality by the EU Commission under the “Covenant of Mayors Demonstration Projects” (CoMDeP) EU Program.

It is focused on implementation of the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs). The project aims at energy efficient retrofitting of three kindergarten buildings (№6, №40, and №41) in Rustavi, through implementation of modern energy efficient technologies in combination with the renewable energy applications.

It will help local authorities to target energy efficiency, enhance energy security, improve sustainability and reduce energy consumption as well as greenhouse emissions.

The Rustavi City Municipality contributes -20.06% of the total project budget.
